Importance of piggyWatch
- He is the symbol of civilisation without him everyone goes into total savagery
- He proves that the ideals of the time weren't always correct: He was a representation of the people that Hitler (represented by Jack) killed. They were seen as useless but at the end of the day he was the most intelligent person on that island.
- His glasses: Symbolises the descendence into savagery. When they were intact everyone was very democratic, after the first glass is broken then the boys become a bit more savage but still know right from wrong, when they were completely broken then that was full savageness. None of them were normal people and they were all animal like.
- He knows the importance of the conch: The conch represents democracy, the fact that Piggy knows this shows that he knows what the island without the conch could be like. Without the conch the island become part of a dictatorship which allows Jack to manipulate the boys into becoming murderers.
You can also link to other scenes for example when Roger throws stones around the littluns but so that they don't hit, this shows the first descent into savagery but not quite there. Then you can link this to Simons death when we see that they aren't scared of anything or of hurting anyone, Jack in the beginning was reluctant to kill the pig now they can fully kill people.
You can also use the first chapter when Piggy finds the conch and shows Ralph how to use the conch to show that without Piggy the boys would not know what to do and could possibly cause war between the boys and cause them to become animal like quicker.
Hope this was of some help...
