PREZE Paragraph on Mr Birling Grade9

Priestly uses Juxtaposition to present Mr Birling as an injudicious character. Mr Birling proudly espouses the idea of `lower cost higher prices`. His desire for higher profit is priorities for his overall bussiness aiming to reduce the cost and in turn gaining higher prices. He disregards the welfare of his staff as he is clearly perfunctory of the impact it will have on his staff. Wereas the `higher class` can always inherit in there own ones.Priestly illustrates that class division in society will always be earning higher wages unable to afford there livlihood.Furthermore this dismissive attuide aludes to the notion that he lacks compassion for Eva`s vunderable state as he is unable to empathise with her as he only cares about his own sucess as he is an indiviualist who believes that ` a man has to look after himself `.The word ` lower` emphasises his selfishness as he is continiousily strives for greater profit, showing that his wants to reduce the cost even further from were they originally stand. Also this show his an exploititive character as he takes advantage of his workers as they work hard for him in ` cheap labour` by paying them less and reapping in the profit by issueing higher prices. An audience of 1912 were class division were huge would be in favour of Mr Birlings optimistic views however faded away and therfore an audience of 1945 would be infuriated and strongly oppose.

quotaitions are in bold !! Hope this helps:smile:
