On a scale from 1-10 how strict are you’re parents?

...Or were your parents?
1- obviously being not strict at all. Like, you can literally do or say anything, no boundaries.
10- being incredibly strict, controlling what you wear, where you go, who you’re friends, religion etc.

State your ethnicity or religion if you think it’s relevant, if you want.

Reason I’m asking is: I’m a 20 year old white English Catholic girl with very strict parents, I would say at least a 9. The only thing they don’t care about is education, because they think religion is more important. I am still forced to live at home, not work or go to Uni until I’m married. I’m literally housebound and never go out without them (I’m not allowed to). Wanted to know how popular this is, especially among other Catholics?

-10 my parents don't love me
Maybe a 5/6? The main thing they are “strict” about is boys/relationships, education being very important in my family as well

I would say a 6
I’m Muslim and of mixed ethnic background
I feel like when I was in secondary it was worse but now I’m 17 as long as I let them know beforehand then I’m fine to go out ( obviously not doing anything they wouldn’t agree with)

My parents are still pretty strict even though I'm 17. But I understand it, I feel like I deserve to be hit since I wouldn't understand otherwise LUL. I'm more glad that I'm not a spoilt kid. So I'd say 6?
My father was really strict probably off the scale. But I understand everything now. It was all for my own good, he was strict because he wanted to protect me. We should respect our parents sometimes they seem extremely strict but its because they care for us.

True. However some religious parents don’t force it upon their kids, like mine
a 1/2 my mum has always let me do what I want for better or worse
My dad is about a 4 or 5 and my mum is around an 8.

Bet you can figure out which one I get on with better lol

2 i'd say
mainly coz we dont spend too much time together except weekends sometimes??? like mom works 14:00-23:00, dad 6:00-19:00/20:00 meh
and like they see it as a miracle if i acc wanna go out coz i sit at home all day lmao
Id say 3. My mum's really liberal, in terms of like she'll buy me condoms etc. There's also lots of sweating at eachother and my brother jokingly etc. But there are some things she'll draw the line at- for safety reasons etc. Like shes against dming strangers etc
4 or 5. My dad is worse than my mum.
8-9
some people are shocked when i talk about my parents. but i know kids offline that can't watch TV, can't go to the local high street on their own and already know who they are going to marry in the future. so i dunno how strict my parents are.
i would say my parents mostly control what i wear, where i go, often what i eat and religion. my parents don't control who i'm friends with but they do express their disapproval and can sometimes push me into choosing who they think are the right people. they believe in arranged marriages but that's not happening in my life nope so i refuse to take on those cultural expectations. also i mean they'd probably raise hell if they saw me on tsr hehe so i clear internet history everyday on my laptop.

Parents are very protective of their kids, I believe they are doing this because they care for you.

I’d say yours was more like 15. I don’t think it’s got anything to do with the fact that they are Catholic. They are just controlling, living in some sort of bubble. Most Catholic schools are oversubscribed here. At 20, you don’t have to live at home. You could go to university under your own steam without your parents’ consent. Your parents are not protective - they are just crackers.
