Smelly breath

Hey just saw a thread about tooth decay and it brought this to mind.

I brush my teeth day and night, and floss like every 3 or 2 days, which i recomend to everyone as it takes so much crap out from between your teeth!

Anyway... when im at college, as the day goes on my break starts so smell slightly, not like horid or anything, just a slight onset of a smell, and im not sure why :s

I have been to the dentist and last time he scaled my teeth (like sanded them down and on the tooth below the gumline to remove any bacteria build up) and that helped, but that was 6months ago now. I will go and get it again but i was just wondering if anyone would know the cause of this or a cure, other than mints ...

Also my teeth are average colour i guess, not really white, like a grey sort of colour, but on my bottom front teeth at the back they are sort of brown due to acid erosion (i drink alot of fruit juice) so does anyone know of a way to remove this? or if and how a dentist would?

Thanks.

You could get some fresh breath spray. Proper stuff ,not mints. I know boots do one, not sure if it is any good.

Other than what you are doing at the moment I can't think of anything else that you can do. It isn't uncommon I know that it happens to me every now and then if I haven't eaten for a while. Maybe next time you got and see your dentist ask them if there is anything else that they can recommend.

OP--i can't help but notice you make some of the weirdest threads Lol.
anyway!
do you see blood when brushing your teeth and you spit out?
if yes, it's a gum problem and that will cause the smell, best thing to do is brush the teeth properly and use the toothpaste twice on your brush when brushing, don't brush softly and gently, this won't help to get dirt between teeth out.

to get rid of stains, you can white them by going to your dentist, or the cheaper way by buying a tooth stick (called miswak) it's a natural growing stick and it's used as a brush my making the end soft (by chewing it to break it down a bit) and then you rub the soft end on the tooth to get rid of the stain.
it's used quite a lot in asia, africa and middle east, am not sure you will like it though as you have to do tooth by tooth to remove the stain.

if you have gum problems mints don't help much, it only covers the smell for a bit and then back to smelly breath so don't just relay on mints.

what colour is your tongue? it should be quite red and not have alot of white, try brushing your tongue and always carry some gum in your pocket.

na no blood, they used to but with the last dentist visit the scaling sorted that out.

I also use corsodyl mouthwash

The stains are not on the fronts of the teeth, just the back, i wasnt thinking remove the colour, more the actually thing, i think its called callus , but i dont want to bring it up to the dentist if he will like drill sand it off which is really uncomfertable.
I find cleaning your tongue helps with bad breath

Might want to check your diet too. Eating junk food and stuff like that can make your breath smell.
Everyone's breath smells to some extent - that's just plaque and bacteria buildup on teeth and the tongue that occur naturally. As already suggested, use a strong mouthwash twice a day, carry sugar-free chewing gum on you at all times, and perhaps invest in a anti-sulphate mouth spray (they sell them in superdrug and boots).
Bad breath is THE biggest turn off. :s-smilie:

Diet has a lot to do with it - eat less crap I guess, and more roughage.

*EDIT - clean your tongue as well.
the mouthwash thats advertised with evidence in the sink - forget its name - is awesome!

I find my breath sticks when I don't eat enough. A swish of listerine helped sort it out. IIRC corsodyl is not as strong/alcoholic as listerine. Make of that what you will.

What is the point in saying that? Do you think the OP can help how his/her breath smells? I'm sure that if they could avoid it then they would, but your comment is totally unhelpful.

The mouthwash with the bits in the sink is Dentyl

and as for alcoholic mouthwashes, these are actually worse for bad breath, the alcohol dries out the mouth and makes it smell more.

As for listerine, that isnt actually as good as the advert says, i did a biology study on mouthwash effectiveness and had to culture bacteria from the mouth and kill it with mouthwash.... corsodyl had nearly perfect results, listerine was about half grade, colgate plax is another good mouthwash if your looking for a cheap one as its works ok and you get like 1litre of it.

As for the ideas, i think i will invest in that anti sulphate spray and some chewing gum

and as for eating crap, i never eat sweets, chocolate, snacks like crisps .... i do eat and drink alot of fruit and fruitjuice tho which is not v good for teeth

I was making a value judgement.

Get over it.
Brushing your tongue helps.
Also, dehydration can make your breath smell, and also not eating, so make sure you drink and eat regularly.
