OK so does anyone do this course?
tomoli

Also, do they interview everyone, and if so is it just an informal interview which doesn't really influence their decision, or do they base their decisions on it?

Cheers in advance.

i think they interview most people but it is very informal, well at least my interview was since i wasn't interviewed by the admissions tutor but a member of staff. he literally just asked me why i applied for the course and why ucl

Hopefully, but applying for Management so not sure if I can work my personal statement to it.
Economics and Business w/ East European Studies is quite competetive with 13 applicants for 1 place. I'll start in Sept!

really? wow, where did u hear that though? ucl econ has 15 apps per place so 13 per place sounds a bit wrong for EBEES, no? but hey i guess ill see you there in september!

Nope that sounds right, EBEES is actually ridiculously popular and over-subscribed as it turns out. Basically people see Economics at UCL, then see that Economics and Business has lower grade requirements so apply for that.

Yup I did Introduction to Economics, the core Economics module in the 1st year of EBEES. As for how it compares with the UCL Econ department I wouldn't know as I haven't taken any modules there, but I can tell you that it isn't very good. In all fairness it is a 1st year introductory module, but still we all found the teaching quite poor this year. The lecturers were average (we had two, the first was actually not that bad, but the second was really awful), the teachers were shockingly bad and the majority of the staff involved speak English really badly. Oh and apparently Introduction to Business is much worse:frown:
I don't mean to scare you, but truthfully the first year of EBEES is bad - all my friends doing it hate it so far. To be fair, my second year mentor was doing EBEES and she said she really likes it now, but be prepared for a bad first year.

can't wait then...
say the course isn't going very well, do you know how easy it is to change courses to a course outside of the department?

It depends on the course you want to switch to. You'll need to meet the other course's requirements i.e. grades and required subjects. I'm switching to Information Management and I found it quite easy to do so, but other departments, especially the popular ones like Law and English, are much harder to transfer to.

I have a question about EBEES... How is its reputation?
How is it valued by employers?

its a bit early to start blaming your failings on hapless lecturers, isn't it?:p:

i also did EBEES (1st year), and having looked at Economics papers, I'd say that EBEES is much much easier. the exams were VERY easy this year (for politics they gave us exam questions beforehand).

the lecturers do have heavy accents, but when you look past that - they are about as good as L100 lecturers, if not better.

the people are very nice, although you'll get more idiots (as requirements are lower) - they are mostly russian and rich.

the 1st year is more of an introductory year to make sure that everyone is at the same level (i've heard that L100 reject people who haven't done A level economics - unless they are brilliant).

The second year will be much harder, but at the end of the day the course is approved by the UCL, so it quite rigorous.
I took the introduction to economics module.
I'd say the first semester lecturer was brilliant, the second awful and I'd second Paddy on the fact that class tutors don't speak english very well. (although mine tried to be as helpful as she coul)
I can't really say anything about difficulty as I left this module (which was my outside option) for the very last minute so had to cover loads of material in a very short amount of time. What I can say is that comparing to L100, the material is not covered with as much maths and that means it is easier for some (personally I don't mind maths really, so it doesn't make such a big difference)
I had a look at year 2 modules, and in that case L100 gets a lot harder than EBEES

How on earth does that work??? People who can't get a 2:1 on that paper shouldn't be at university.

Yeah I heard that from the people who took politics as an outside option. I think its ridiculous

yes. i've had a Goldman Sachs internship (the creme de la creme of IBs) and i am proud to say that i do EBEES.

its not what you do, but where you do it.
