What would you consider to be the most important current development within the field of geology? Something related to climate change?

I would say either advances in natural hazard monitoring and prediction (particularly as population growth is exposing more people to such hazards), or the development of alternative sources of fuel such as shale gas, as a sort of stopgap between dwindling fossil fuels and relatively slow uptake of renewables
