University choices please help!!

Hi guys!
I was just wondering if you can help me with a problem that I have which consists of choosing my universities for the 2019 entry as I am on a gap year.

I received my results for the BTEC national extended diploma on results day where I achieved an triple distinction (DDD). I am looking to apply for to universities with the courses media and English. Do you think it is is realistic for me to apply to Leicester university? And what do you think of my chances of getting in? And also can you think of some good universities where you think I have a good chance of getting in with my grades. I would I appreciate this immensely.

You can find courses using this search tool.

https://digital.ucas.com/search/results?SearchText=Media+and+English&ProviderText=&SubjectText=&AutoSuggestType=coursetitleslist

Dont forget to look at the variations.

1. Apply to Leicester ? yes- actually I dont see a media and English degree for Leicester.
Link the course please. theres a film studies and English.
https://le.ac.uk/courses?location=&Page=1&level=Undergraduate+2019&subject=&q=english&mode=

2. You can use the offer predictor

3. Find a copy of Heap degree course offers and that ranks courses by A level entrance. It might not do for joint degrees. I suggest looking up noth individually and see if you meet the criteria for both. It will show you the unis that require DDD/ AAA as well as those above or below. You still need to check entrance requirements though to check you meet them. I dont think you said what your subject for the extended diploma was.

Dont have to buy and careers library or large bookshops will have one.

As I said I cant find the course at Leicester you mean Media and English joint?
You have to check with the entrance requirements.
The media side they should be fine with its just if they feel you have done enough English. I would expect you to be fine but you have to check the entrance requirement.

Please refer to post#2 point 1.
Look on the Leicester site for the available courses and the entrance requirements for your chosen one.

That course is fine.

There are no subject requirements.

The more away from elite unis you get then the more flexible they are on requirements.

Imo unless Leicester is your home town, then DDD will get you into even more highly rated unis than Leicester if you are interested.

English single and or joint may prove more of an issue. Some will require the A level and some will not, best check. Joints are less likely to require.
Personally I would be wary of doing English single honours without the A level.

@999tigger oh ok thank you, so far it is only one course where I have looked at which has English in it and that is a joint honours with journalism. I have looked at the entry Requirements which states I will need (DMM) in a BTEC National diploma.
https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/home/course/ENLJOUUB/
However, can you recommend any other good universities which would take an (DDD) in creative media production to study media. I would be really thankful!

Four ways to id courses

1. Use the ucas search tool and look at entrance requirements. Look at all the variations of English and Media.
https://digital.ucas.com/search/results?SearchText=media+english&ProviderText=&SubjectText=&AutoSuggestType=

2. Just google or pick the unis you like and see if they run the course, look at entrance requirements.

3. Look at the guardian table to give you a rough idea of which unis might offer such courses and then id the ones you like the sound of. Take results with pinch of salt. It does id who might be offering a degree that interests you.

https://www.theguardian.com/education/ng-interactive/2018/may/29/university-guide-2019-league-table-for-journalism-publishing-and-pr

4. Get a sight of this book. Heap Degree course offers. It will be with your head of sixth or careers or in the library or at careers or on large bookshops.
No need to buy. Just look at or photocopy the Media and or English section.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HEAP-2019-University-Degree-Course/dp/1911067885/ref=dp_ob_image_bk

It lists all unis by course on one page and then orders them according to entrance requirement so you can see who might accept DDD or AAA. Not everyone who accepts AAA will accept DDD, but most will.

I think you will be well into Russell group.

Those are the methods I would use. It requires you do soem research, but those are the best methods of identifying where your courses are.

"Journalism" isn't "Media", and "Media Production" is different again.

What do you actually want to study? And what careers are you considering.

Personally I'd recommend a broader English degree at somewhere like UEA, but you could also look at very specific courses like

Maybe @PQ has some thoughts.

fashion branding or fashion communication type courses would be worth a look. Especially if the course is linked to a practical fashion degree - that means a department that is involved in GFW (that means access to industry).

Look at the shortlisted universities for the media, comms and marketing awards this year: http://www.graduatefashionweek.com/award-shortlists/
University of Central Lancashire, Birmingham City University, Nottingham Trent University, University for the Creative Arts Epsom, Edinburgh College of Art, Norwich University of the Arts, Leeds Arts University, Ravensbourne, Arts University Bournemouth, , University of Leeds, UCA Rochester, Northumbria University, Liverpool John Moores

Another route would be to look for a magazine journalism degree - but these are more common as masters courses (particularly degrees with proper industry accreditation)
exeter is a good one
