Is it too cliche to introduce your personal statement with a quote?? Do Universities really care that much??

Depends if your applying to a Russel group I wouldn't but if it's a normal uni I'm sure they wouldn't care too much

It is to a Russell Group, but the quote itself isn't cheesy. It links in to what i'm gonna talk about in my PS. I don't know if i'd take the risk though

Universities want to hear what YOU have to say, not a quote that they've read thousands of times before within a PS.

What course are you applying for?

Why? Just reference/name drop the book/source and talk about why that specific piece of work has influenced your decision to read X at university.

Don't use quotes.

RG, non-RG, doesn't matter. Same advice applies.

Ahh another example of this picture being used wrong. Why couldn’t whoever first did this meme at least have used the correct still from the film!

But a true point none the less!

I Blame everyone in the history of using that meme since 2001!

And guess who had to google apposite to find out what you were saying...

It’s actually quite interesting the thing about that meme. He is making an eye with his hand in reference to the eye of Sauron. During the one does not simply line he is kinda face palming so Sean bean could read the script cause they were only given the script that morning. And...
I’ll shut up now and stop derailing the thread, and yeh @OP quotes are honestly a waste of precious space as much as anything.

Interesting - do you have the correct still?

And yes, it's a good word that I will try to air more frequently from now on :yy:

I wouldn't even use a single quote. But yes, it's beyond cliché. And the fact that you are introducing your PS with it sets the mood for the rest of text, just don't no offence.

As others said, it is a huge waste of your own words and quoting someone doesn't make you any better than anyone else. It doesn't show anything about yourself.

This link shows it pretty well (even gives the correct line)

It’s just funny seeing you use it since I’m currently in the middle of writing a presentation about this very meme!

It does seem like a good word even if in the time I was asleep I have forgotten what it means!

If you do include a quote, make sure it's 100% correct! I remember my teacher telling me a story on how this magazine included a quotation for something engineering related, and it wasn't correct - but several hundred students copied it

'A Porshe, a Porshe, my kingdom for a Porshe.'

Excellent! I might try to change things up and use that correct image next time.

By the way, did you know there's an alternative image for that distracted boyfriend meme. The original photoshoot has one with 2 boys with the girl at the centre.

I’d did vaguely recall seeing that as a thing somewhere. It’s safe to say I’m not very knowledgable regarding memes though!
