How could you find out what pigments they contain?"...i kno that one would be seaweed right? or do they not have leaves? i kno that to alot of people here this probably seems like a really stupid question...but i'm not in college yet so that kinda changes things...thanks everyone! Don't worry, just don't feed your plant for a few months. The leaves will no longer be green  Result!

Many underwater plants do not have green leaves (seaweed etc.) because they contain carotenes and xanthophylls (more red/orange) in place of the green pigment, chlorophyll. This enables them to absorb more light from the green and blue parts of the visible spectrum. This is beneficial as green, blue and yellow light (medium wavelength) is able to penetrate water to greater depths than red/orange (long wavelenth) and violet (short wavelength) light can.

Maple? I seem to remember someone mentioning that. Hmm. Maybe it was something else.
