What else would you do? Employment pre 16 is pretty limited and I’m not disciplined enough if left to my own devices.
I also wouldn’t get the chance to meet as many people or discuss such a broad range of options. You’d have to be incredibly privileged to have the resources to learn the same or more than you would in a school environment in a social setting.
Access to BBC Four on the iPlayer does not require privilege, nor does access to Wikipedia. Just drive to learn.
But then I used to bunk off school and watch World at War. Laurence Olivier, eat ya heart out.

There would have been times when I would not have attended. To avoid subjects I did not like or was not much good at. I am fairly sure other pupils would have done the same- for example those who hated playing sport.
