Hey ho everyone,

Should preface by saying I am not an IBM spokesperson in any way - just putting myself out here to help you guys out.

Thought it would be good to get this thread up and running to centralise questions and discussion.

For reference I am a Degree Apprentice at Exeter doing Digital and Technology Solutions and I started at IBM in May 2018 so I've been here a little over 6 months (as of writing this post).

I cannot go into massive detail regarding the interview/online tests process as I will lose my job but I'm happy to answer questions about the application process, the uni and what kind of work you may be doing.

99% of the info regarding opening dates, general job descriptions and entry requirements can be found here :- https://www-05.ibm.com/employment/uk...ol_leaver.html

Hey, how are you?

How long did the whole process, from the online application to getting the offer, take for you? I completed the hirevue interview and extended application about 2 weeks ago and am yet to hear back.

I am a massive anomaly in this area, in that I completed my application on the day it opened in January and started in May, it normally takes longer and depends on a million different factors so it's hard to give a rough idea - you haven't been forgotten about though!

You can specify in Software Engineering in the Degree Apprenticeship Pathway - https://www.instituteforapprenticesh...sional-degree/

As far as pre learning goes obviously doing some form of coding will help as this is common to all pathways as well as making sure your maths and essay writing skills are solid. The good thing about degree apprenticeships in my opinion is how it links with work so for example if you are a Java Developer in your day to day job its a free 100% in any Java modules that come up.

Hi there - I'm thinking of applying for the IBM Technical sales apprenticeship - the deadline is January the 31st. I wanted to ask about the application process - how soon after sending off your CV are you sent the IPAT test?

Thank you!

Hi - I applied over a year so I cant remember exactly however the first few steps were quite fast maybe a few days between them but it can vary due to demand for the role you applied for or volume of applications so your mileage may vary.

Hi There, just curious of how much prior knowledge IBM would expect for their apprentices.

In my opinion IBM (and other companies) don't hire you on what you know its more your potential. If you can program already great, if you can show passion and the ability to learn and be independent amd manage your time etc etc etc that will put you in a much better place.

what are the benefits of doing the apprenticeship rather than the traditional route of becoming a software developer

This is an easy one - lets imagine you have 2 cvs in front of you.
One is a uni grad with a 2:1 and a couple of 6 week summer internships.
One has an apprenticeship and 3 years of experience.
Who will you hire?
Experience is counting more and more these days due to degree inflation.

Don't quote me on this as I don't work in recruitment at all. I'd imagine that this isn't it for the recruitment for 2019 start dates. Make sure to register your interest to get an email as soon as they reopen here.
