Procrastinating My A-levels Via GYG

:hi: Hi

I'm probably a bit late to the party by starting now (35 days till Christmas!) but seeing as I've been on here everyday for two weeks, I thought it would be interesting to see if I could maintain a GYG blog.

I mean, I also have a Chemistry test tomorrow that I'm putting off revising, but...

About Me
Hey!
I'm Katie, and I'm in year 13.
My ultimate goal in life is to become a Doctor, whoop whoop. And for that, I need a minimum of AAA at A-level. No pressure right?

I'm prone to procrastination, yikes. I'm going to try not to just cram for my mocks, but no promises.

Interesting fact about me: I have 10 guinea pigs. All going well, I might add them into a couple posts. (Just further procrastination?)

So yeah. Feel free to stick around for a cup of tea. :tea:
(The hot water and leaves kind)
I can't promise anything exciting will happen, because my life isn't very exciting, but I'll try my hardest to make sure that if it does? It will be me getting into study Medicine.

Note: I suffer from anxiety, and occasionally get panic attacks. Since these normally occur at school, read at your own risk.

So, I'm not 100% convinced that I understand the concept of what you're supposed to post on a GYG thread. I know the growing of grades is supposed to be involved, but I have a feeling it's just going to end up with me ranting about how lazy I am, and how much I procrastinate. (Both of which is true)

Like I procrastinated the posting of this post. But that's justified.

See, I was supposed to spend the this studying for a chemistry exam, but I came home from school and took a nap. Which lasted until dinner time. Oops.
Not much revision occurred. So instead a coming on here, I slammed my laptop shut and attempted to learn things.

Exciting! I got an invite to interview at St. George's university! :excited:
I'm planning on going to their open day on Saturday, but at the moment, they're my number one choice, and my only interview. :woo:

My chem test did not go well. I know this because the only other chemistry student, in my year, found the mark scheme on his phone. I have not done well.

But I got up at 6:40am, which I think is impressive for someone who's usually falling asleep on 12 hours sleep. I used this time to study my chemistry, kind of. I think my revision methods need work.

22nd November 2018

Three hours of lessons seems like three hours too many when you're half asleep... for some reason. I had over eight hours of sleep, how could I spend the entire day wishing for eight hours more?

Anyway, I actually studied in my trapped free, which I feel is quite impressive, when my entire year are obsessing over Hay Day (?) and are constantly asking for cornbread, or something like that...

Even more impressive was the fact that I rounded up all my Chemistry notes and organised them into a folder. It took an hour and 25 minutes, but now everything has been filed away according to book chapter.
Except for exams, which I'd be happy to never see again. Including: One end of topic test with 26% and another with 22%

Pro Tip: Do not wait an entire year before organizing your A-Level notes.
(And if you are going to wait that long, make sure the work has been correctly labeled. That sheet of practice questions that seem random? Probably was important. Where does it go in the file? Nobody knows!)

I should get my BMAT results tomorrow. Slightly terrified.
Slightly more terrified about the interview at St. Georges. I am not a confident person (and yet I want to be a doctor?) so am afraid I'll try too hard, or end up panicking and not being able to do it at all. But there's still quite a while, so no use worrying yet!

BMAT RESULT DAY
4.8, 5, 3.5A
(Section 1 and 2 are awarded a number between 1 and 9. Section 3 is awarded a number between 0 and 5, and a letter out of X, E, D, C, B, and A, with A being the highest.)
("The scale has been designed so that typical applicants to the most highly selective undergraduate university courses (who are by definition academically very able) will score in the region of 5.0."

I think this is the first time in my life that I have happy with exam results! That's not an exaggeration either: The first exam I remember is my year 2 SATS, which I failed miserably. I can't remember an exam after where I went "I did good!". Even with my GCSEs, I was disappointed.
But now I am so happy!

I had nightmares all morning (I went to bed at 1:30am...) about what it would come out of.
This included a dream where I'd done so badly I'd got -3 and -8 (even though those scores are impossible).
So honestly? It's no wonder I'm pleased!

Also, adding them up according the Brighton&Sussex, I get 18.3. Last years cut off was 16.3. :woo:

School work?
Considering I have an exam on Monday, in a subject I traditionally fail at, I probably should have done a lot more work than I have.
Which was just to read through a Biology chapter during lunch. Oh well.

Tutor Meeting
I had a chat with my tutor today. I think I baffled them by speed talking through cut off scores and grading's and statistics.
And hopefully shocked them by how talkative I was for once.
They're the best form tutor I've had in my, almost seven, years of school. (I've had nine)

Tomorrow
I'm going to St. George's open day tomorrow, with my parents and grandparents. I can't promise to take photos, because my phone's broken, but I'll definitely add my thoughts.

St. George's Open Day
As the above title suggests, today was the St. George's open day!
(Note: This is the university that has invited me to the Medicine Interview.)
They are still my top choice, and are pretty unique.

For example, the campus is essentially part of the St. George's hospital (yes the one from 24hours in A&E), a fact I find amazing and surprising. There's only a set of doors from the teaching rooms and actual hospital patients. In hindsight, that's slightly terrifying...
(Note: Most med schools are part of normal campus-ness (?) with travelling required to get to the partnered hospitals)

And they are the only UK Med school to only teach medicine and biology related courses. That's their specialism, and its pretty awesome - everyone there will be learning (kinda) similar things.

Sorry, I think I got off track.

The Open Day was great, and my grandparents seemed to like it and find it interesting too (I was worried they'd find the 1hr medicine talk boring). The area felt like a hospital (down to the maze of corridors, and squeaky floors), and I saw more of the facilities than I did at other open days.

The accommodation was just like everywhere else, to be honest, EXCEPT they only have one site for accommodation, and only two types of room - both ensuite! £164, and £174 a week. (So kinda expensive...)

School Work?
Pfft, who needs school?
Clearly not me, if the fact I have done none today is any indication.
It's true, you should take a break every now and then, but my break has lasted days...
I better revise for Chem tomorrow...

On a side note, I received my Mock Timetable yesterday.

Thank you!
I really do need luck when revising chemistry. And learning chemistry. And chemistry...
And shhh, there's still a while to our exams. :hide:

25thNovember2018

Since I have barely done anything today, there will be no subtitles, and this will only be short.
(Note: I say today, I mean yesterday, the 24th, since I am posting this late)

I have done some Chemistry revision, but nowhere near what I wanted to do - procrastination got the better of me again. But I have done some, so maybe I won't fail my Chemistry test...

I should have a book full of medical interview questions coming in the post, so that's exciting, as is the news that for the past two years, Brighton&Sussex have handed out invites to interview on the 5th of December. But who knows?

School
School was school.
I was there from 8:00 till 16:00. Granted I wasn't working all that time, but I am exhausted.
Chemistry test went... well I'm not sure. I don't like passing judgement on tests, but I at least answered pretty much all the questions, a major improvment from year 12.
I worked during my free period, and was rewarded by ink getting all over my hands. Fun.

Other
There is nothing else.I have been pretty lazy today, and have no regrets!
(Except for the bit where my father has strongly implied that he is unhappy with the lack of work I do, and thinks this may lead me to fail my a-levels. No regrets here!)

How am I?
I am pretty miserable, thanks for asking. But it will pass. Hopefully.
Now I'm gonna go rant in my diary...

Chemistry
Today I got two chemistry tests back:
[78%] Chromatography and Spectroscopy
[46%] Acids, Bases and Buffers

In the first one, I lost quite a few marks on some questions about reactions of amino acids. As far as I'm aware, this isn't completely linked with Chromatography and Spectroscopy, but I guess I now know I should probably study them...

In the second one... It seemed that quite a few of my brain cells were not functioning correctly on the day of the test (Pro tip: Eat breakfast, or at least a snack, before you have to start doing calculations) nor were they functioning at 100% when I went through it today (Pro tip: Investing in an alarm clock, and then actually getting up, will allow you to eat breakfast, and have you in peak condition to mark those calculations).

It seems that sometimes I gave up hope halfway through questions, and just moved on, which isn't useful when trying to get an answer. And in one of them, I came to the correct answer, but left it to 1 d.p. (It was a pH), and because I hadn't written in the calculations I used, I lost about 4 marks. Smh.:grumble:

Private Study
I did approximately 2 math questions today. Yay?
I made the same mistake in both - a mistake that I KEEP MAKING.
When will I learn?

Procrastination
I procrastinate so often I've decided it deserves its own subheading.
Today, I didn't procrastinate so much, but that's because I spent so long asleep. I have an excuse; I got this particular kind of headache that I randomly get sometimes, and the best way to get rid of it is to lie down. Only then I fell asleep.

Books
Today I got some new revision books delivered yay.
Guess this means I actually have to use them...

(Why is the Math book a slightly different design???)
