Why do guys want to know?

Why do guys want to know about past relationships?
Same as girls: noseyness/curiosity.
I guess there's an element of evaluation in there as well ... eg what am I risking here, has she been slutty/cheated or has she dealt badly with her partner in other relationships and could this impact on our future life together ... also, can I learn from how certain things have gone in her past so that I can work to ensure we don't fall into the same patterns and can make this relationship work.

They're curious about the kind of person they're getting involved with. It's the same as wanting to know any other aspect of someone's past.

A girl told me once that she and her ex had both cheated on each other. That should have been a sufficiently big red flag for me to withdraw my time and energy from her. Lesson learned.
