How much time do you have for hobbies when doing A levels?

I'm starting year 12 in September 2019 and am planning on doing 3 A levels (maths, english lit and geography, all 3 of which I'm good at) and I am just wondering about the workload you get in sixth form, and how much time is required to be spent on studies. I have lots of hobbies outside of school and education, but I'm wondering now how much time I'll have to do them once I start year 12, along with study and work?

Hi @harrywolfhom,

It depends on the subjects you take, but usually it's creative subjects such as art, textiles etc that come with the most work outside class. I think you should be find with the workload- I look 3 essay subjects (History, Classics and Politics) and although I got a lot of work I still had time to go to my martial arts classes three times a week, participate in school productions and sing in the choir (all of which were after school). You'll probably find now and again you'll have a busy week but you should still be able to continue your hobbies.

What hobbies do you do?

Hi, I'm an A Level Biology, Psychology and German student, with an EPQ on the side

I get from 2 to 6 hours of homework a night... which makes my social life quite unpredictable, because I have to prioritise my studies. However, I'm also a musician, and I rehearse for a musical 3 nights a week, plus the odd concert. I also climb once or twice a week, but I have had to cut down on this because of homework. I used to row, but have actually had to stop this month due to school work!

Basically, I manage one of my hobbies really well alongside school, but a lot of my sport got lost when I started 6th form :frown: . Although I do fit in parties here and there so if I was really concerned about rowing I could just stop socialising.

Hope you can keep up with all your hobbies! I know the workload for maths is high but geography is apparently not too bad. Good luck!
