Obesity is a massive problem for modern societies. For the first time in human history, more people are dying because they’re eating too much than there are people starving. I personally see the solution in “nudges”, a concept from behavioral economics. We must psychologically encourage people to make better choices in two crucial aspects: diet and lifestyle. The sugar tax, fat tax, and so on are in my opinion good ideas. But it’s more important to help people abandon the rampant sedentary lifestyle that describes our society. We need to make it worthwhile and rewarding in many ways to cycle to work and use standing desks and such.
