Hi, I’m 16 Year 12 doing as level bio, chem, psych, maths

I was thinking of hopefully doing microbiology in the nhs as a future career but I am still unsure whether to take doctor route or biomedical scientist route (still unsure about clinical)

I was just wondering if it’s possible to apply for two different courses at different universities eg healthcare science at Cardiff met and medicine at Cardiff uni,

Thanks

RegisteredBMS might be able to give some insight into the BMS microbiology field as I believe that's their area of specialisation?

Regarding medicine, you can only apply to up to 4 medical courses in UCAS (out of 5) so you will have (at least) 1 "non-medical" course option. The HCS course in question may accept a medicine statement, but I doubt it given that it is speciifcally a training programme for a different NHS role. You can contact them to ask if they will accept a medicine personal statement without prejudice though, but I wouldn't recommend banking on it.

People typically apply to "academic" biomedical science courses for their final option, or sometimes related "biomolecular" type science courses (such as biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, physiology etc) and very often these courses will accept medicine personal statements without prejudice towards their commitment to that course or to medicine (if applying to a non-medical and medical course at the same university). Some more applied/clinical biomedically oriented courses might accept a medicine PS though. As stated before though, usually the best practice is to contact the university directly to confirm this.

If being a Biomedical Scientist is what you want to do then the Healthcare Science (Life Science) course at Cardiff is the best option.

Only Consultant Medics have involvement with the microbiology laboratory team so although you can end up in micro as a doctor, that's a lot further down the line and also it is going to be competitive.

Hi, thanks for the help.
I contacted Cardiff met and they said “WE would consider the application, however I would suggest that you send in a revise personal statement so that we can attach it to your application when you apply.”

Anyone know what that means?
