So my two options are Psychology, Clinical Psychology and mental health VS just psychology. Will psychology, Clinical Psychology and mental health limit me in terms of careers if I wanted to branch out further than just mental health, eg forensics

I asked this question at a psychology open day in Lincoln, it may be different for your uni but they explained to me that essentially a degree in psychology, is still a degree so you won’t be limited in terms of career. However, should you choose psychology with clinical and mental health you may have less choice in which modules you can choose on your second and third year 😊

I’m looking at royal Holloway it’s funny because the course seems basically the same but they have two different names

Hi katie091000,

The first two years of our Psychology courses follow a similar model before you explore the specialisms in your third year. This is to give our students the opportunity to explore the various specialisms available within our Department of Psychology.

If you'd like to speak to a current Psychology student, you can chat to third year student Lucy on our website here. She'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the Department of Psychology.

A cautionary note. Picking a degree at a university which specialises in clinical psychology with all the trimmings may not guarantee you get to do the clinical modules. You will find nearly everyone wants to do the clinical psychology modules at at some universities there is a savage bidding process where people try and enrol on the modules and many don't get on.

Whatever 'career' you do with a Psychology degree is going to need substantial amounts of work experience in that area anyway.
