Is anyone here studying for the new Edexcel specification A level History of Art (first assessment June 2019)? I do have a lot of questions I'd like to ask. Thanks.

What themes are you studying for paper 1 section b? What periods for paper 2? What textbook/resources are used to deliver the course? How does one find, select and use critical texts?

Could I have a list of the specialised art books? What advice were you given by your teacher? I'm assuming you are studying at a private sixth form college where the teaching is good and the staff are quite knowledgeable.

Sorry for the late reply, the introduction books by Taschen are good for a general summary and critical quotes. There are some great online resources on ArtHistoryforSchools you can look them up easily, they have made up questions compiled by history of art teachers around the UK for each paper.

Hope you don't mind me jumping onto this thread but I am seriously thinking of doing this subject in a year. I did my A levels this year, 2 very good grades and one awful....long story. How did you find the course? If I go down this route it would be part self study and part private tuition. Any info on the course or the exam papers would be a great help as if I am going to commit I need to get a move on. Thanks!

Would you mind me contacting you on this subject, spec, resources, exam etc as I am considering this as an additional A Level, cramming it in a year during my 'gap year'. Thanks

Hi, I´m also doing history of art a-level and Im seeing that you have the very same questions that I have, but I noticed that it was a year ago when you asked it so I was wondering if you have the answers to those questions and if so, could you send them, so like: What textbook/resources are used to deliver the course? How does one find, select and use critical texts?....
Thank you.

My school switched from Pre-U to Edexcel A Level this year so I suppose my year is like the guinea pigs for testing. My depth study is the Renaissance as well and my teacher is still familiarising herself with the syllabus and marking. It's a pretty new qualification, so there aren't any published resources on revision or exam technique, which I find extremely frustrating.
