Is it cheaper to rent an apartment or live in campus accommodation for graduate students?

Depends on the apartment, but usually will come at least partially furnished.

The plus side of campus accommodation would be the social aspect and also the fact that all of your bills would be taken care of in one hit, whereas off campus/private accommodation would normally have rent and utilities separate.

Different parts of Lancaster are more expensive than others; I remember the areas closer to the campus being pricier than those further away! However, it's easy enough to get to campus via bus and it's also walkable/bikeable if you're that way inclined
