LLM (Conversion) or GDL?

Scroll to see replies

I am a non law graduate, I wish to become a lawyer at some point, although I know I can’t get funding for the GDL although I can for the MA law. Would it be a wise choice to go for the MA?

What is the difference between the two?

TIA
I am not an expert and my daughters both just did the GDL as one was funded by a law firm and the other by me. I htink it is quite a bit of extra work to do the masters element too but if that is the only way you can fund a GDL starting this September 2020 then do it having considered if the new SQE exams are better or worse for you as we are in a transitional period in to the new exams.

BPP eg say

"Choose a Master’s degree route
Graduate with an LLM Law and Legal Practice
Our Law Conversion Course (PGDL) gives you the option to graduate with an LLM Law and Legal Practice, a Master’s degree which is eligible for postgraduate loan funding up to £11,222. You will complete all elements of the PGDL, plus one of three additional modules***:

Professional project
BTC Part 1++
Coming soon: SQE 1 preparation

You will need to select the LLM at the point of application, but you can decide which module to take during your course."
