Bloomberg Graduate Financial sales?

hey guys

i have a offer for this above job but was wondering what you guys thought of it, i know the basics of the job but havent been told yet salary etc, but could it lead to a better job in ib in the future?

here is job description, i know bloomberg isnt the most sought after on here, but i got rejected at big4 interview which was my first choice and unlikely i will get a offer from another big4 for 2008 anyway.

cheers!

If you are aiming to get into IB in a couple of years, I doubt it would be an easy move. From the job description, the maximum you'll do in that role is interact with banks / financial institutions where the bloomberg terminal is installed and give them ideas about add-ons to it / new services bloomberg is offering.

Its very similar to any other sales job, just that you'll be selling a bloomberg terminal (which I guess would give you some idea of the financial markets but which again could be gained from the internet in a month!).

If this is your only choice then yeah go for it.
I think if your offer is for a summer internship then it will be helpful in getting into IB later. But seeing as it's a graduate role I think it'll be quite hard. I believe their starting salary is something between 18k - 23k? Not entirely sure. Don't forget Bloomberg is still a well respected financial institution so if you're good you'll move up the ranks pretty quick.

To judge if you can do better - well firstly it is strange that you would not get a Big4 offer with Economics from Notts, what happened? Did you lack EC's or work experience? Any contributing factors?
don't take it, you will regret not going to Big4 instead of this. trust me
Is it not possible to prepare really intensively to make sure you don't fail any of the assessments or interviews at a big 4?

got a question bloomberg-big4 related and would greatly appreciate any input as I am seeking a spiritual graduating student professional mentor along the way...

i'm currently working in one of the Big4 - Audit...and would like to get the heck out of it. The issue is i'm actually much more prone in IB or a financial consulting setting...is my CV going to be stained by audit or are there possibilities of me being a well-respected candidate at bank interviews?
In addition...I wanted to apply to the Bloomberg Financial Sales position...would that be wise? Ditching Big4 to go there?? Pleaseeeeeee

25k/yr. a top performing grad got a raise of 3k after 1.5yrs - hrs are 8-6. 1st yr will be similar to working in a call centre. u even do 1hr of reception work everyday. easy to move up the ranks? a few yrs ago, yes. Now? def harder. To get from grad to do actual terminal sales take approx 3yrs (ive been told) unless u know russian or other emerging markets languages. the job is pretty dire, not very "intellectually challenging" but u'll improve on sales skills and learn how to handle tempered traders. Financial knowledge learned is very limited basic stuff.

switch to IB is not impossible but def hard. you'll be known by the traders/bankers as the bloomberg guy, only.

on the plus side: free food, great ppl, young company that take care of you i.e. comprehensive and on-going training. known for hiring "presentable" ppl. any more questions? pm me

Funny, but I'm in the exactly same position. It's almost been a year of audit and now I feel i need something new. And since I speak russian, this job may come of use. So what did you decide? Is this position a move up or a sure way to mediocracy?

It is a great place to work. I have been here for around 18 months. If you get on their sales and analytics programme (which they are currently recruiting for) you start on a basic of £30k+ plus bonus. This progressively increases as you rise the ranks into sales. I am currently an equity specialist on the analyitics team and hope to move into sales soon.

You receive top class training in the financial markets. You spend the first 2 months or so doing nothing but learn about the markets and bloomberg.

It is a tough interview process. 3 Interviews and a lot of technical questions.

Highlights? Free food and drink (including cola and orange juice). Working with a great bunch of people. Lot's of travel when you move into sales.... most guys only spend Monday and Friday in the office if you get a territory abroad.

A few people I have worked with have gone on to work for banks and brokers but I don't see myself doing that any time soon

Any questions feel free to ask

Bloomberg's offices are sweeeeeeet, I can vouch for that.

What is the earnings potential say, 5 years down the line?

I hated the offices. Actually made me feel sick, no joke.

Why? Don't you like fish?

Too much purple, yellow, red. Felt like I was in some kind of nightmare.

Lol, yes, the colourfulness was a bit much, not sure if i could work there for too long, but the sofas, fish tanks and stuff dotted around were pretty cool. Also, the giant help-yourself cafe was immense. I drank a year's worth of Pepsi I'm sure.

I'm guessing generous helpings of pie and chips, salad etc as opposed to duck terrine and cavier ?

Free cola and orange juice! Wow! I was worried the salary seems a little low, but this more than compensates! Hooray!
