Course: Japanese Studies
Grades needed: BBB
Predictions: AAAA
Where do you rank it among your choices: 2nd, 3rd, or 4th
Any other comments: Yeah, out of my six choices I pretty indecisive about what order of preference they would come in . Loved the Leeds campus when I went to see it, although I didn't get a chance to look at the city, but Leeds is more specialist in Chinese than Japanese...

Ah, heck, I'm not going to worry about preferences unless I get offers  .

I know Leeds is a relatively good university, and I really don't want to put you off coming here, but surely with grades like those you should be applying to slightly better unis, like Durham, Newcastle, maybe even oxbridge?

Because Durham and Newcastle are so much better than Leeds.

University is about learning, not randomly deciding where is the "best".

But Durham has very little social life, all the people I know there ended up trekking to Newcastle (a little bit further than you want to be travelling just for a night out)

And Newcastle uni isn't that great, they ask for even lower grades than Leeds

Course: Politics and Parliamentary Studies
Grades needed: at least BBB, apparently.
Predictions: AAAA (including General Studies)
Where do you rank it among your choices: I haven't really got a clue to be honest.
Any other comments: I haven't been to visit, and I'm really genuinely not sure where it figures in my preferences. Suppose I'll just see where I get offers from and work from there.

Course: Law
Grades needed: AAA
A Level Results: AAA
Where do you rank it among your choices: 4th
Any other comments: Long story cut short - I was supposed to be at Leeds this yr but one of my exam boards forgot to confirm my result - thus UCAS informed Leeds that I only achieved 2 A Levels and they refused to take me on. Took ages to sort out (I'm talking weeks and weeks), so I decided to take a gap yr and work in a law firm for the year.

Well I guess that's me told then! Clearly I've underrated Leeds a bit. Glad to be here though, it really is an awesome university. I suppose it might even be the best, all things taken into account (variety of courses, course content, social life etc)

yay Leeds!

Do you agree, what an amazing course this appears to be? I had never heard about it until a friend told me that they had turned down a place at Cambridge to take PPS. This is me...

COURSE: Politics and Parliamentary Studies
GRADES NEEDED: BBB (doubtful)
PREDICTIONS: AAAA (Excluding General studies)
RANK: TBH I havent ranked my universities because I don't want to build up any hopes or shoot my mouth off now- I am the queen of pessimism.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: Difficult. As I said this course sounds a unique opportunity with some great work experience built in, but I have applied to five other universities which I really love and I don't feel the same about Leeds the place, just the course.

French & Russian
Needed: BBC

I agree with that completely. The course looks absolutely brilliant, but I can't muster up the same sort of enthusiasm for Leeds itself somehow. I keep thinking "don't forget you have to live there for three years."

That's really odd. A main reason I chose Leeds was because of where it's situated, the people I met while I was on the open day, and the sort of social life it has. I think it's a lovely area.

My brother started in october, ive visited him twice and Leeds seems like a lovely place to live. Its a big city so admittedly has all the usual problems of such a place, but it has so many plus points too.

I don't know what it is really...probably that it's the only place I applied to that I've never been. So I have a really clear idea of what everywhere else is like. Plus Leeds is like my school moved East a bit, loads of people from here apply to go there, and end up going there. Last year about a dozen people from my school went to Leeds, all to do the same course. Somehow the idea of all those people I know being around, even though I'd probably never ever see them, puts me off a bit.

Yeah there's 8 people from my school here at the moment, but we're all in different accommodation, and all doing different courses so it's very rare to see anyone. Incidentally though, I did see them all during freshers week, but it was nice, it sort of reminded me of home

just got unconditional offer for maths today

but its my sixth choice anyway; i've studied over the road from leeds uni for the past 2 years! need a change of scenery!

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. I don't really know what Leeds the city is like, I've never visited. I think I like the look of the older universities that I have applied to more than the newer ones like Leeds. Its just weighing up the course against others. I hope I have the opportunity to choose if I want to go there or not!

What school do you go to in Liverpool? I live there too!
