Can someone help me with tips for personal statement?

Make a list of all the things that you have done that relate to your course and will make you stand out to a university.
Think about why you want to study the subject, but avoid clichés like ‘I have always wanted to be a...’ ´I have a passion for...’ etc.
Then think about your extra/super curricular activities (this paragraph shouldn’t be too long) and what you would be able to bring to the course at university.
Try to relate everything to your course or the skills it has given you that will help. This will keep you from going off topic. (You don’t really need to do this with extra curricular activities though, as they will show them what you are like outside of academia).
Once you have collated all of this info, begin to put it into full sentences, forgetting about the word count at first.
leave your intro until last as that is what everyone seems to find hardest (once the rest is written it’ll be easier)
Then check your word count, if you’re under then great! If not, go back through and delete any adverbs or replace conjunctions with semi colons. Take out anything that you wouldn’t be able to talk about well in an interview, and consider what points are your best (delete the weaker ones). And check you’ve not repeated yourself! However, a teacher or someone else should be able to help you cut it down if you need to.
Don’t try and be overly stylistic; they are more interested in what you do, why you want to do the course and what you can bring to the uni. Just make sure it reads well.
Hope this helped a little.. good luck!Last edited by emilyhaworthx; 3 days ago at 18:11. Reason: TDA Post Edit
