breast size gone up since going on the pill

please keep anon or delete, I don't want my friends to know about this...

Ok, so I've been on the pill (microgynon) for the first time, for a little over a month and a half now. I don't have any huge problems with it (although had crazy mood swings at first), except for one thing:
over the past month my breasts have gone up 2 cup sizes.

Now I know this would be some people's dream, but I hate it so much. I was a D to start off with, and thought that was too big for comfort, but this is really getting me down. There are times where they just feel really painful, and I get awful back ache. Plus I'm only 5ft2ish and just look way out of proportion.

I haven't gained any weight elsewhere, so I'm not sure if I've actually put on weight on my breasts or if its some kind of hormonal swelling or something like that? Does anyone know? Also, if this has happened to anyone else, do you know if it goes away if you come off the pill?

Has anyone any advice on what I should do? I don't really want to switch pill/come off it now cos my exams are coming up in a month's time and I don't want to go into a crazy mood swing period again. If I manage to lose lots of weight will it come off my breasts? (I'm about 59 kilos atm).

Please help. Thank you for any input.

Microgynon is all kinds of evil - change it! I'm on Cilest now, much better.

I can't speak for everyone, everyone reacts differently but from my personal experience - I was on microgynon for 3 months and actually now I think about it my breasts may well have been bigger, because they've shrunk since (I attributed that to weight loss but maybe it wasn't). During these three months my moods were evil and changing to Cilest made them all nice and stable again. So I really do recommend you change pill - most people I know are on Cilest and I've never met anyone who gets on with microgynon. Even my doctor admitted it's rubbish.

*raises hand*

Two and a half years and never had the slightest problem.

My doctor said most people are given Microgynon at first because most people are fine on it.

You just only hear about the people who don't get on with a certain pill.

Yep, mine went up a cup size. If you're not willing to change the brand or stop taking any form of pill, you'll just have to put up with it.

i didn't get crazy mood swings with my first pill. after exams you should probably go to a family planning centre (not a GPs) and get proper advice about which pill suits you best. For example my family planning clinic (NHS of course) don't prescribe your pill, they think it's so rubbish that they don't give it to anyone actually. I know that cause I told a doctor their i didn't want your pill cause I heared so much bad stuff about it.

Try switching to Yasmin.

Its one of the few pills where you don't put on weight. In the trials of it most women actually lost about 1kg over a certain period of time (I forget which).

I've had no problems with it at all, I was on microgynon at first, which everyone is first put on as it is the cheapest pill on the NHS. Go for Yasmin (it's the most expensive so some doctors may be unwilling at first).

ooh awesome, i've just started taking microgynon, free boob job (looking on the bright side)
OP: i'd stick with it another month or two if you can bear it, see if anything changes? don't you have to have a check up after the first 3 month pack? so you can raise these concerns with your doc then and poss change product.

Yay some hope

thanks for replies people.
I am planning to go see a doc after my exams are out of the way. How easy is it to change pill on the NHS? I was kinda under the impression that my doc said they only offered a couple of different ones

I would go to a family planning clinic who have a huge range of pills on offer and they are specialists in contraceptives, and'll know more than your doctor.

Sorry, this sounds stupid, but what exactly is a family planning clinic? Do you have to pay to have an appointment/prescription or is it with the NHS?
If you google "family planning clinic" you'll be able to find a local one. I've never had to make an appointment, and it's free.

I really want to go on this pill, my boobs are tinnnyy and i would rather like a 'free boob job' as someone else said. is it possible to go on it with the excuse that you want bigger boobs? :s-smilie:
No.

And it won't necessarily make your boobs bigger anyway. :s-smilie:

I've been on two different pills, microgynon and mercillon, the first was great for contrceptive/lightening period purposes but I had no other bodily changes. The second was too weak for me so did not have the desired contraceptive effect (I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding) but made my breasts a good cup size or two bigger, which was awesome as I'm only a B normally :p:

Unfortunately I had to switch to the IUS coil as big breasts don't stop you getting pregnant.
I was on mycrogynon - exact same thing happened. I asked my doctor about it but he said that it wasn't fat, but water retention (hence the reason you often feel 'bloated') and that as soon as I stopped taking it they would go down.

I regularly measured my boobs to take note, and eventually stopped taking mycrogynon (because it gave me acne - I didn't mind the bigger chest), sure enough, a month after I stopped taking it my boobs shrunk back to their normal size.

Also, have looked up family planning clinics, thank you for letting me know bout these...

I think the NHS offer pretty much all contraceptive pills. My doctor was great - when i didn't agree with cilest he changed me to cerazette which is one of the most expensive ones - i had no idea until we covered it in lectures this year! Just explain the problems you've been having and if your GP won't help see another one

Just ask to go on it? Mine didn't ask me why I wanted to be on the pill. If they do ask, just say so you can be careful or something, it's not like you have an exam to go on it or something
