RGU accomodation

I have just accepted RGU as my firm for next year and I'm having great difficulty in getting any useful info from the website on accomodation! There are only pictures of the outsides of the buildings and no details about facilities!
Is there anywhere I can get these details from?
I will be studying Pharmacy (hopefully!) so will be on the schoolhill campus. Which halls would be most convenient for me? And are they nice?
What are the nicest halls? And do all en-suite rooms have a shower or it it just Garthdee??

thanks!

Hey,
I'm at RGU and at halls atm, if you're at Schoolhill the most convenient ones are Woolmanhill, although if you're wanting ensuite the chances are if you're over a day past the opening of accommodation applications then you won't get it. I'm pretty sure you could still get a Woolmanhill room standard though.
I'm ensuite at St Peters (applied for Woolmanhill ensuite and didn't get it), they're not great in terms of looks and a bit further away, but once you've been living there a week or so you don't really notice. I'm pretty sure all the ensuite bathrooms (apart from Garthdee) have a shower, toilet and sink, they're really small, but they do me fine and i find it's better than sharing. I think the nicest halls are supposed to be rosemount (or at least that's what iv been told).
If you're wanting more details about facilities you're probably best to phone the accommodation people, or email them, although you do get sent a list of stuff you get and what you've to bring sent out to you.
Hope that's been of some help:smile:

Yeh it is a great help thanks.
I've been told that wolmanhill are like prisons with bars on the windows etc, is this true?
Are all the bedrooms small? There are a few pictures on the website and they are all tiny! :s-smilie:
How far is it from St. Peters to Schoolhill?

Also what is the SU like? And where is it? Are the sports facilities good at RGU?

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure about whether Woolmanhill is like a prison, i've only been in 1 flat, the stairwell was maybe a bit like that but once you were inside the flats they weren't too bad, and apparantly a lot of them have been done up since i was last there.
I don't know about the bedrooms at Woolmanhill, but the bedrooms at St Peters are quite big, i was really surprised by the size of them when i moved in.
From St Peters to Schoolhill it's about a 20 minute walk, only 15 if you're going to the St Andrew Street building for lectures, although it varies depending on which way you go. They're just on King Steet too, which means its easy to get to places for nights out aswell, altho it takes slightly longer than if you're in the city centre obv.
The Union is alright, i've actually only been there about 5 times, its quite good for cheap drinks and things after uni etc (it's right beside the Schoolhill campus) but i personally wouldn't think it'd b great for a nite out, but it just depends on what you're into.
I'm probably not the best person to give advice about the sports facilities tho, as the only time i've been down to RGU sport is to do exams, but it looks pretty good.
Anything else u want to know just ask and il try and help:smile:

Ha, yes. The initial reaction to Wooly is that it's like a prison. The stairwells are caged (for your safety of course), the main doors have the flat number spraypainted to the wall, all big industrial green firedoors and most of it's cream breezeblock (except the new ones that have been done up and the ones at the back which are white). You get used to that though and realise it's all just very standard as it's a student halls. You can't expect it to be too flashy. And no, there are no bars over the windows!

The size of the rooms vary. In the main blocks there is 8 rooms to a flat. Out of the 8 there are 2 rather small rooms, 2 a bit larger than that, 2 that are big enough, 1 slightly bigger than that, then the biggest room. They all fit in a single bed, a bed side cabinet, a desk, a wardrobe and a sink, with some floor space left over. They are big enough I think.

The student union is fantastic. Cheapest drinks in town. Usually closes an hour before the main clubs, which is really good. Go on a Wednesday or the weekend and it's usually packed with folk. Naturally all students so it's a good way to get to know people.

I've never used the sports facilities but the RGU:s-smilie:port has recently gone through a multi-million pound development and is now a top class gym. It has the usual fitness area, swimming pool, raquet courts etc. You obviously get a discount being a student but I believe it's open to the public.

Any more questions and i'll be happy to answer.

Get used to it. RGU Accommodation are worse than uselss. It's almost impossible to get information out of them. Ask a question and you get the most unhelpful reponses, it takes badgering them to get any infromation out of them (but they're not slow when the rules are broken!)

Woolmanhill is closest to Schoolhill, but it's horrible (I've stayed here for two years). The rooms are almost always too hot, resemble a prison. Thespace isn't great, poor amount of storage and the things in your room are not the best of quality. I'm in an en-suite room and they have showers.

I'm hoping to stay at Rosemount next year (about a 5 minute walk from Woolmanhill, so fairly close to Schoolhill). It'smeant to be better there (it's one of the Liberty Living sites that RGU use). I posed pics of my room this year here

I was in Woolmanhill the other day visiting a friend, i'd never been in his flat before but after i left i was extremely glad i didn't stay there. The bedrooms were absolutely tiny and pretty horrible, the ones at St Peters aren't bad, and compared to Woolmanhill they're actually pretty massive.
Also, from what i saw the area round about the Woolmanhill flats looked a bit dodgy imo. They're close but the other halls that RGU use are in much nicer areas.

At the end of the day, if you want a really good social life, a lot of parties and meet a lot of people, Woolmanhill is the way to go. You have to accept that everyone else there is in the same boat as you, room wise, so get over it!

If you want a bit of a quieter accomodation with a not so bustling social life then try one of the other places. They'd be better come exam time if you just want to settle down. Really just depends on what you want from the social side of University.
I stayed in Woolmanhill this year, was unlucky in that I got the small room in one of the blocks that hadn't been done up yet. Im moving to one of the new blocks which Im looking forward to, and I'll be in with 5 other people so my room is bigger (6 bed flats take up the same space as 8 so the communal bit is smaller but rooms are bigger, I think). Yes Woolmanhill's a bit scabby round the edges, but to be honest after the first week or two you stop caring about what it looks like and start caring about the people who you live with and being so close to campus is a big bonus
Im same as Danielle. But i was luckier. I got the 6 bedrooms one at the bck of woolmanhill. I believe it's normally for older students as well as international students. It was pretty new and spacious too- to me anyway. it's pretty much lyk a prison - tho, a nicer one without bar at the window . Im going bck this year because it's so close to St Andrews building. Im sure you'll get used to it as time pass. You will be too drunk to be bothered by the state of your flat at the begining anyway , i think hehehe:biggrin: Im going to flat 5 again!!
And now since Im lucky enough to know speedstacker I'm going to get to stay in one of the new and spacious building with her

And its the people in it, not the building itself that's important
