Goes to... (drum roll)

Boris Johnson :woo: :woohoo: :woo:

“He failed miserably as foreign secretary ... a demagogue not a statesman, he is the most irresponsible politician the country has seen for many years.”
https://www.economist.com/britain/20...st-in-politics

It takes some doing amidst so much chaos for Boris to stand out amongst the ranks of utter chumps to such an extent. Full marks to Mr Daffy. Amazingly, apparently, Boris has 'followers'.

I can't make Raab out really. Is he a sinister, craven genius? Or just slightly bonkers?

Let's be honest, "The Economist" is a joke of a publication these days.

The interesting point is that the Economist is frequently on the Right, or at least, has intense faith in markets. Johnson would, one assumes, be their type - but even the people who would normally be most supportive have apparently had enough of him.

The sole remaining question is what on earth is the Boris really for now?

The Economist is openly centre right. I disagree with a lot of what it says, (being a lefty and all that) but I do respect it and enjoy reading it because it makes quite principled arguments much of the time.

Who knows what Boris is in for. Part of me thinks he doesn't actually want to be PM, he just wants to be known as an old grandee who could have been, like , Hesseltine, Portillo or Alan Johnson.

Does the Economist go by the level of idiocy a person has or the impact of that idiocy?

If the latter, I think the award is naturally going to end up tugging at the skirt of great men as opposed to actually identifying monumental morons. It is also interested in selling subscribtions, meaning talking about big names and topics, and not actually saying anything important. All in all, I have to say I think this thread is a pile of horse shite.

Boris is far from an idiot. He puts on a buffoonery act that appeals to nitwits whilst he focuses on getting fame and power for himself at any cost. He has been highly successful in this.

When I read the title I thought it was going to be about the most idiotic economist of the year, didn’t realise it was about the magazine
