I have always been a CIE candidate, but recently I learnt about Edexcel IAL January exams and decided to give it a try, now that there aren't as many Edexcel IAL candidates in my country, and the information I found about it is kinda vague, I have a few questions which I hope can be answered here, many thanks to those who reply.

1.So first of all, the dates, now for the results of January exams and May exams, all the websites I searched only say that they will be released in 'March/August', or 'early March/August', I think we do have something more precise than that? By early March, is it more like 5th March, 10th March or 15th March?

2.Now this is is kinda special, I've registered for 4 Math exams that together will make up my IAL maths grade, but one of the exam happens to take place on a day I have another important arrangement for.

As I said I have always been a CIE candidate, for CIE maths we have to complete two exams for A1 or A2 if we want to have a good grade. I registered Core Mathematics12, Core Mathematics 34, Statistics 1 and Mechanics 1 for my January exams, which are what I've learnt in the CIE system.

Now if this is CIE, we absolutely need to complete C12 and M1 in the same exam period for an A1 grade. Say C12 and M1 each worths 50%, if I only do C12 and got 45%, then CIE will automatically merge this 45% from C12 and 0% from the untaken M1, so the final result is 45% for the final A1 grade.

When I registered I saw this 'merge' option in Edexcel IAL which was quite surprising to me, so I wonder can all these 4 exams stay independent and valid if I don't merge them yet? I wish to quit the exam on the day I said I have another important arrangement for, it is C34 and honestly I think I should spend more time revising for it too.

So my plan is to take C12, M1 and S1 in January, then I merge C12 and M1 to get an A1 grade, S1 grade will stay there until I take C34 in May and merge them to get an A2 grade, then finally I merge all 4 grades to get an IAL maths grade in August, is it possible?

Again, many thanks to anyone who have answers to my questions, I'm more eager to have the second one answered because if it is not possible I will quit S1 exam in January too, which for now is still a part of my revision plan.

Regarding question 2.
The process you call "merge" is officially called cash-in. The A level you are taking is a modular qualification, you can take units in any order and at different times and combine the results to get the final qualification. There is no need to cancel the C34 exam on the day, you can do so now with no affect on your other exam plans. You can take C12, M1 and S1 in January. If you want to be awarded a grade for the AS you should ensure the exam centre have requested an AS cash-in. EDEXCEL will decide whether to use the S1 or M1 result to determine the best possible AS grade. You can take the C34 exam at a later time and request an A level cash-in to be awarded the overall A level qualification.

Thank you, yeah cash-in, that's the word. I had already registered and the cash-in code says YMA01, I think I'll still contact my local British council where I registered the exams again, cancel the C34 exam and change the cash-in code to XMA01, which I think will merge my C12 grade and M1 grade to give an AS grade, and S1 will be temporarily left alone.
