Hi all!

Is anyone preparing for the British Biology Olympiad? What are the best resources? I only read Campbell and Life once (general biology) and some PDFs of random stuffs that aren't in those books, but I guess I have a considerable view of biology.

It is really necessary to read all of those books, such as Raven, Alberts, Lenhinger, Brooker, Vanders and Hickman for BBO or IBO? Or do you just read some important chapters? And if the answer is positive, which chapters do you read?

Hi, I'm doing the Olympiad this year too. I just started reading things today! you are so organised. Where did you get your reading list from and does anyone have any other practice papers apart from the sample one?

I’m in Y12 and I’m doing the BBO too. I found a website with past papers on it (biolympiads.com) but only the 2010 paper has the answers available.

Do the medal boundaries stay the same every year? All the papers I’ve seen say 61 for gold, 56 for silver etc.

yes they are multiple choice and out of 90. Does anybody know if they give negative marks for wrong answers like the Maths challenge does.

Regards preparation, I have read MBV Roberts Functional approach to biology, studying various forms of plant reproduction, including bryophytes (Haploid gametophyte generation), Ferns (Diploid sporophyte generation, with the prothallus containing both the female (archegonia), and male (Atherpedia), organs), in addition to behaviour (Habituation, kinesis, taxis, escape reflexes, conditioned reflexes, and operant conditioning). I have done various papers, however having said this, I highly doubt much of this will appear on the actual paper; hopefully, it does, since it distinguishes people who don't care to those who do..

I learned a bunch of A level content which doesn't appear in the Scottish curriculum which didn't come up in the test. So sad...

I actually didn't find it that bad, but I don't think I've gotten any awards since for the whole of the first paper, for the questions where you have to order them - i put the answer in the wrong box (how can someone be this dumb honestly)
