Does anyone have a not too expensive list of a few books on the Cold War? Preferably from a beginner's point of view, so that a bit more knowledge of the subject can be gained in order to mention a little about it in a Personal Statement? Thanks.

'The Cold War' by John Lewis Gaddis?

Gaddis is one of the most famous living Cold War historians, and this book is pretty readable in my opinion.

You can get a second hand copy on Amazon for about £5 including delivery.

Also, for a complete beginner, there's the "Cold War: A Very Short Introduction" by Robert McMahon (from the very short introduction series)

McMahon is also a famous Cold War historian.
