BTEC to Oxbridge

Just out of curiosity, can BTEC applicants apply to Oxbridge? If allowed so, are BTEC applicants disadvantaged in comparison to A-level takers? Many thanks.
Unfortunately Oxbridge don’t accept BTEC applicants unless they have A Levels alongside. Hopefully that will change one day because its pretty unfair

No, they won't be accepted.

Why would they be? BTECs are a vocational qualification, not academic study.

Oxford does.

However the reality is very few with BTECs apply, and fewer are accepted because most applicants don't then do well enough in the admissions tests, etc.

But see this thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5694646

They're not deemed sufficient preparation in most cases. Which is fair enough, and it's a stretch to call it elitism. Oxford in theory accepts BTEC computing alongside A-level maths for computer science, but a professor on here said that no-one in recent memory has done well enough in the MAT/at interview to get an offer.
They do accept BTECS
To clarify on my above very old post, BTECs alone generally do not seem to be accepted. The Oxford website does note they are accepted for Medicine and Fine Art. Computer Science and Engineering seem to accept them if combined with maths and maths&physics A-levels respectively. The general advice is that BTECs (and other level 3s) should be combined with A-levels. (so for example if you're taking 2 A-levels and 1 BTEC, you may still be considered)

Cambridge does not seem to accept BTECs for "most courses".

A student at my school was studying Maths, FM, Physics and BTEC Engineering. He applied to Cambridge to read Engineering and received an offer but it was based purely on his 3 A levels.
