Weak business owners put up with the constant abuse they receive from the council and HMRC. HMRC constantly asks for things that they have no legal right to ask for, e.g. Z reports. If people stopped being so weak and docile and refused to do anything that the do not have a legal obligation to do, maybe business profits would go up.

Maybe the UK is one of the most heavily regulated countries in the world and business owners struggling to run their businesses do not have time to be experts in the masses of employment and business law we level on businesses? As a result, fear of being penalised and an assumption that the councils and HMRC should know better sees small businesses conform. What is your alternative?

HMRC do not constantly ask to review business till z reports, they only would so do in the event of some form of enquiry into either taxes on profits or re vat.

In the last ten years I have had one request to review re all my clients, a routine vat visit due to that business having an initial vat repayment upon registration for vat, HMRC visits are very uncommon, in fact HMRC enquiries appear far less common than in the past.

A business has a legal requirement to keep certain records and HMRC, following correct process, have a right to view same.

What is the issue, given we have say self assessment re income tax should HMRC not have a right to check that submitted figures are correct?
