Where only certain groups of qualified people i.e a profession are allowed to call themselves members of that profession and able to conduct certain types of work.

Hold themselves out as a solicitor. Be someones legal rep. Charge for giving certain types of legal advice.

Barristers tend to be more based around rights of audience in court and advocacy work.

There are exceptions.
