What are the advantages of studying at southampton university? Anyone who has visited it or studied there, would you recommend studying there?

Hi Eleni!i ! I know that this thread is a bit old, but I thought that this discussion may help other people who consider studying at the University of Southampton

I am currently in the third year of my MSci Zoology degree. There are several things I really appreciate about my programme and the university as a whole. From my experience, I can say that there is a big focus on the practical application of the lecture content – lecturers try to make sure that the knowledge you get will be useful in real-life situations. Therefore, you can also get both the fieldwork and laboratory experience each year, depending on the modules you choose. As you progress, you can focus on one type of work or mix them, especially in your third year.

There is also a wide range of dissertations projects, depending on what you enjoyed in your previous years and what you are planning to do after uni. You can collect data in the field or laboratory, choose to do the literature review, come up with the idea for organising some workshops if you are thinking about becoming a teacher, do the science communication project… One can definitely find something interesting

I live relatively close to the Highfield campus and I don’t travel to the city centre very often, but there are buses that can connect you with the city centre right from the university. What’s more, our Student’s Union makes sure that there are always lots of events going on so you definitely can engage in student life without the need to travel far. University itself offers many opportunities, such as free language courses, career fairs or some summer internship so there are many things to keep you busy!
