Why is Crude Oil considered a fossil fuel when it isn't used as a fuel ?

The fractions that the crude oil is separated into are used as the fuels, i.e gasoline, so shouldn't they be considered the 'fossil fuels' ?

Thank, Lewis.

Who even draws that distinction? Yes technically crude oil is not a fossil fuel but a conglomerate of fossil fuels.

Sometimes it is.
In any event when its distilled down then its component parts are.
As the other person said it seems strange you would try and make that distinction.
