Is being asked to do a three week trial for a gaming shop, a little too much?

I recently applied for a gaming store near Westfield [london] and was asked to do a trial shift of three weeks. They haven't said if it's paid or not and I asked if I can just do the weekends, as my course has me in three days a week and I need to study on the other 2 days.

I'm just wondering why they would me to do 3 weeks when I could just do 1 or 2 shifts?

If its unpaid they get to see if they like you, and get a free worker.
