Hello!

A bit late to the GYG forum but I’ve suddenly (and finally!) been hit by some motivation to get working for my A-levels and thought that sharing my work on here would possibly help me extend this motivation to at least a little closer to May and the dreaded A-level exams.

My A-levels are:

History (OCR)

Chemistry (AQA)

Biology (Edexcel)

My predicted grades were: ABB (A in Bio)

I am aiming for 3 As in the summer although in my latest grade reflections I was predicted A*, B, C (Bio, History, Chem)

Please ask my any questions you can think of and I’ll be sharing my work as much as I remember!!

What are you studying in history? Have you done you’re coursework yet? What do you plan on doing at uni? Which unis have you applied to?

Haha! I don’t really know where the motivation has come from but I bet it really won’t last long...

I’m studying Britain (Churchill and then Britain from 1951-1997), French Revolution and Napoleon, and Russia from 1861 until Khrushchev.
I’ve written my coursework (on Appeasement) and have handed it in to be read. I don’t know if I’ve done it right...
I’m planning on doing Veterinary medicine but my predicted grades this year weren’t high enough for many of my choices so I applied to 2 bio veterinary as well.
I’ve applied to Nottingham, Surrey, Royal Veterinary College and then Liverpool and Royal Veterinary College for Bioveterinary

Today was the first day of my motivation. I mean, I’m not motivated enough to start work before 10:30 but I know I won’t sleep well once I get back to school.

I have mock exams this week (Wednesday and Thursday) which I know I’m not prepared for but I guess I’ll use them to see my starting point for the actual A-level revision which will start straight after them.

Anyway, today, I started off my revising Churchill who is making up half my mock exam for History and I managed to write up all my notes so they’re all in one place and it also just reminds me of what the topic covers as its been a while since I last covered him. There really isn’t much to cover for him as he’s source questions so it’s just about using our knowedge in context but that doesn’t stop me from worrying that I don’t have enough notes. I feel relatively confident about my knowledge for History but I really dread the essays as I’ve completely forgotten how to write Britain essays (for anyone not studying History, there are different essay types for each topic).

After lunch, I got on with Chemistry revision, which is by far my weakest subject. Despite the fact I feel like I’ve been revising all Christmas break this was the first time I’d actually got on with my work! I’m an excellent procrastinator. At the moment, I’m trying to create revision materials which I can keep using until May/June so today I made an Excel document which had all the topics in Chemistry and then on separate sheets I put all the sub-topics and graded each one from 1 to 5 (1= no clue what this is, 5 = confident) so I could see where I’m at now and I’ll be able to track progress.

I then read the syllabus for each of the sections that are in my mock and picked out things that I really don’t know which I feel I could learn before the mock on Thursday (I definitely left it a bit late!). These were mostly definitions, mechanisms and calculations and I spent the evening creating flashcards for the definitions to add to a pot of Chemistry flashcards I have.

It makes it sound quite productive when I write it down but I definitely know I procrastinated a lot and I really don’t have the time to so that’s definitely something I have to cut out!

Wow this was a long post but I am one to ramble so I expect it will reoccur!

I’m doing Churchill and Britain too, although my coursework is in Thatcher. I’m finding it really hard, my teacher says it’s not very good.

A word of advice. Motivation is often nowhere to be found when you need it the most, so don't expect this burst of motivation to continue over the next 130 days or so. Based on my personal experience. That being said, it's splendid to see someone who hasn't entirely been crushed into the ground by A-Levels.

And I was so motivated, I've not updated in a week...
Actually, all motivation has disappeared as I expected it to and I've had quite a few breakdowns about work.
My mocks didn't go too well as I expected because, despite literally working all holidays, I don't think very much revision went in! I got a high B in bio which is better than I initially thought but a bit disappointing now I think about it, a D in History (let's just say I had no knowledge) and I haven't got my Chemistry back yet but I answered very few questions.
I also spoke to my teacher about my history coursework and she said I've done it all wrong and obviously haven't put enough time and effort into it which ngl, hurt a bit as I devoted almost all on November and December to it.
I guess we really can only go onwards and upwards from here...

Don't be too bummed out!! Just put all of this new found energy into your work - easier said than done but anything is possible when you put your mind to it

Good luck 💓💕💛🤞🏽💫💙
