Hi,I’m really torn between these two unis and was hoping if anyone who is studying at them could give me some pros and cons about it, especially if they’re studying textiles or an art subject.

I love Manchester because it’s such an exciting city and the uni was great (modern, spacious & good facilities), however it’s not as high on the leaderboard as Nottingham Trent; which is 4th in the county for the course I want to do. Plus I have no idea what sort of people the university attracts as a whole since I don’t know anyone who goes there.

Nottingham Trent seemed super friendly and I can imagine I would feel comfortable there, but the art campus isn’t as big compared to Manchester: eg only 1/2 laser cutters for woodwork (textiles don’t have their own) which seems limited for a uni? I’m also worried that there won’t be that many live music events, where’s Manchester had loads on regularly.

Any info at all would be great

Hi

Glad to hear you're considering MMU! It's always difficult when you're torn between universities you really like. It sounds like you've already visited Manchester Met - have you managed to visit Nottingham Trent yet? We often find that visiting universities proves the deciding factor for applicants in choosing the university they want to attend.

In regards to the sorts of people who attend MMU, we're a really diverse institution with students and staff from all sorts of backgrounds. If you're looking to meet people with mutual interests, why not check out the societies we have on offer?

As a regular attendee of gigs here in Manchester, I can confirm you'll be spoiled for choice, whatever your music taste! (Mainly rock, metal and electronic for me).

Some features and benefits of studying our BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice:

  • Through project options, students can work towards their area of specialist interest.
  • Access to extensive traditional and digital workshops.
  • Teaching staff are practising textile practitioners and researchers.
  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary opportunities to work with students and staff from across the faculty.
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in Unit X, an innovative unit offered to students across Manchester School of Art that encourages interdisciplinary study and collaboration on an external-facing project.

Let us know if there's anything you'd like to know about the course or studying here at MMU!

Matt
