I'm going to just stick my Lady Macbeth notes from last year up, if you've got any other questions just ask!

Lady Macbeth Character Notes

Ambitious
Attempts to persuade Macbeth into murdering Duncan by calling him a coward and challenging his masculinity -
‘Wouldst thou have that which thou esteem’st the ornament of life, and love a coward in thine own esteem, letting “I dare not” wait up “I would”, Like the poor cat I’ th’ adage’
Strength of determination -
‘Glamis thou art and Cawdor; and shalt be what thou art promised’

Ruthless
Comes up with the plan to kill Duncan -
‘Must be provided for: and you shall put this night’s great business into my dispatch’
Finishes the murder of Duncan -
‘Give me the daggers: the sleeping and the dead are but as pictures: ‘tis the eye of childhood that fears a painted devil’

Supernatural
‘Fiend-like queen’
Invokes spirits to make her more ruthless -
‘Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood’
Attempts to persuade the devil into covering up her actions -
‘Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell, that my keen knife see not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark, to cry “Hold, hold!”

Dissimulation and Cunning
Pretends to treat Duncan well -
‘All our service in every point twice done and them done double’
Duncan thinks she respects him -
‘Our honoured hostess’
‘fair and noble hostess’

Affection
Whole ambition is for her husband
