I don’t want to put you off but I do GCSE drama and I don’t like it at all . I absolutely regret picking it and I wish I could go back to pick an alternative subject but it’s too late now because I’m in yr 11. The practical side is not to hard unless you get nervous when you have an invigilator infront of you with a camera ! The coursework is ok I guess as long as you have your teachers guidance. However the written exam you do is very hard and you have to be really good at theatrical studies for that . So if you did drama based stuff in your free time then I do recommend you picking it however if you don’t please think of an alternative subject because I don’t want you to suffer the same way iam !

I'm currently in Year 11 and along with sami, I'm not really enjoying Drama and I wish I picked another subject instead.
You obviously need to be able to perform in front of an audience, but the writing, like the portfolio (Unit 1 if you'll do the OCR board) is very important to get high marks.
I would advise to choose it if you know the other people who'll do it well because as you know, Drama is mainly group work (though you are marked individually) and good chemistry with other people would increase the quality of your performance and you'll be able to enjoy Drama more
From what I've done, you'll do a devised piece (where you created your own performance with a group of people) and a scripted piece (pretty self-explanatory). Your written exam (if OCR) will be a pre-chosen play from your teacher.
From what I've experienced, Drama GCSE is my least favourite and my experience had been very bad. However, everyone has had different experience.
I would say that if you REALLY want to take it go for it! But, if you're just considering it, I would advise to pick another subject.
