There is a simple way to save out world from over population global warming the threat of nuclear annihilation And the need for insanity induced virus wipeouts. However as the multiple debates on this site show it is highly unlikely people become polarised in their views whether right or wrong on many subjects and it takes unusual self control to objectively study because these debates become so emotionally charged we start to equate attacks on our beliefs or views as attacks against us. This is a real problem because the only way we can really save our planet in the long term and our species in the longer term is to put aside all our petty squabbles over whether we believe in a god or not and which god we do believe in if we do, we need to put aside political ideology and start to work as a single human race. Once we all belonged everywhere huge cities could be built at strategic points around the globe each with a infrastructure which uses renewable energy and is designed to be as self sustaining as possible the rest of the world could be used in the most efficient manner to provide food etc, we would need a single language that everyone was taught so everyone could communicate because we really need to become a single people so we can become as efficient as possible and get out into space because while we are all resident upon a single planet our race is easily wiped out by an asteroid, a nutter with a nuke, AI wiping us out or a thousand other doomsday scenarios. Only by spreading out into the galaxy and eventually into other galaxies can our race hope to survive and we can never do that whilst we are fighting and scratching amongst ourselves.
Population control is terrible problem, my hearts breaks seeing all the famine and drought in the third world, why aren’t we educating these people to reduce the number of children they have whilst providing a worldwide infrastructure that provides everyone with cheap power and clean water in the long run it must be cheaper to do this than just sent aid that often is too little too late,
Our governments across the world all suffer with a fatal flaw they are reactionary, if a problem occurs it’s we will learn from that and it won’t happen again changes are made but problems keep happening because no one thinks long term towards the future to prevent these things even happening in the first place.
The terraformed Sahara is an idea I have considered myself, if the western world created a fund between them they could make arrangements with the coastal nations around the Sahara and build several huge plants that are both desalination plants and hydro electric power plants, this would provide water, power and salt, a massive infrastructure of pipes and cables could be installed across the desert while specialist teams collect the sand separating the sand into any different types so any that could be used in construction were stored together and used in the cities construction, any that was suitable for making glass was stored and saved to be used in the construction of a giant dome which would cover the city and which would be shaded to protect the citizens from the sun whilst every other section of the dome would house solar power units which should make the city self sustaining when added to the surrounding water plants, the sewage system could be used to fertilise a slowly growing area around the city for farming gardening etc, of course the day we all work together is probably never going to happen.

In short, not especially.

I believe in climate change and am even open to the idea that humans contribute and am not per say opposed to initiatives that reduce emmisions, pollution or increase sustainability (there are long term benefits to energy independence both economically and geo-politically).

With that being said (and i am a big fan of meteorology so have read a lot) i am not especially concerned and find the hysteria of the media and many of this generation to be misplaced. While it is true that there are impacts to be had from climate change the idea that some try to push about a world in which we cannot survive is severely misplaced. Most of the effects of drought and heat and resultant famine for example will be felt in Africa. For the UK and Scandinavia for example (and Canada) there are even postulated economic benefits due to the longer growing season (though discussion of it is discouraged for some reason).

In short i do support a move to renewables and the like but i am not one that is willing to tax our populous or engage in hysteria to do so. We in the UK will be perfectly fine for the next century or so.

This is a non-argument whether one supports climate change or not. Paradoxically you should not actually expect any increase in North Atlantic hurricanes because the primary driver of our hurricane seasons is the ENSO base state. Climate change actually produces more El Nino's which paradoxically increase shear over the North Atlantic basin. In terms of hurricane activity it is the Pacific which would see an increase in activity.

Now the fact that the Pacific Decadal Occilation has not been especially effected by climate change is perhaps more relevant since this is a significant contributor to global angular momentum. When we had a run of poor summers between 07-12 for example it was in part due to the a significant multi-year negative PDO base state.

Yeah I'm sure the economic impacts of London being underwater will definitely be offset by a longer growing season. That will definitely work.We live in a global economy. You can't just shut yourself off from the world.Climate change destroying people's livelihoods will affect us here.Where do you think all those refugees are going to go? Maybe we will be fine for the next century or so.So what? Is the temperature going to magically stop rising after 100 years? Will our population stop growing?

There's 1.3billion Africans.

There's barely 50million of us. Hm I wonder what my interest is? What happens when there's 2 billion, 3 billion, 5billion, 10billion of them. How are they going to drink, eat, where are they going to live? Of course we need to control population! Not least because they are industrialising.

And this is exactly the reason why I say I hope for an ice age or pandemic, because nobody will face the elephant in the room. "You're not allowed to say having 10billion Africans pop up in a few decades is bad thing! That's racist! We have unlimited infinite resources!". Thus it'll never get solved, we're on the brink of apocalypse and middle class white illiberals are only concerned with virtue signaling.

"Hurr durr you industrialized in the past that means its ok to let populations get out of control and for 10billion africans to industrialise in 50 years who needs oxygen and air and forests anyway?"

Alright.

You're not helping anyone. By virtue signaling and not allowing people to talk about this very real problem all you're doing is encouraging and causing more famine, more starvation, more global warming, more pollution. You aren't their friend.

It's common sense that smaller, more manageable populations will be able to build and thrive.

I get excited every time I hear news of a pandemic. I hope it'll be the big one. We need full global societal collapse and a good century or two of pure survival and natural selection.

Then civilizations will rise again around the world, repopulate and hopefully learn from our mistakes from their archeological digs of us.

FYI Africa's population is set to rise 3 billion this century.

People like to talk about climate change but are not prepared to do their bit for it. As humans we would have to radically change how we eat, live, travel, interact and develop.

All those clothes, food, shoes and many more products that we use would have to be reduced to reduce the impact.

I am not prepared to change and nor will I. It may seem selfish but I am not changing my lifestyle for something we have caused to happen we were warned about it years ago but we ignored the warnings and it is way to late to go back to normal weather conditions, the earth's weather from now and here on out is forever changed and weird as ****

The issue really here is that there's not much we can do to stop the human contribution to global warming. There are basically more important things that require our resource.

And in any case, it's not exactly self-evident that we are causing significant long term damage. That's not yet clear.
It worries me so much. I made a conscious effort to start educating myself about it a few weeks ago and I've had to stop looking at it all cos it gets so overwhelming and I feel guilty whenever I buy a single plastic thing or turn on a light. I know these things don't make a great deal of difference but idk. It's scary and terrifying and very real.

Erm yes it is.Its been clear for many years now that we are doing long term damage to the climate. Most of the effects of human induced climate change will probably last thousands of years.

I'm not denying the climate is warming. I'm not denying we are contributing to that. There will be some long-term effects of this. It's not a good thing.
However, exactly how much damage are we causing in the long term? It's really too early to say, and those who argue otherwise are in my view misleading.

Obviously there is a debate to be had there, I'm just not sure that we can improve things enough to halt our contribution to global warming without other really devastating effects

In terms of the environment, in my opinion there are things we should rather focus our efforts on, such as cleaning up the oceans. The work these guys are doing is really interesting: https://www.theoceancleanup.com/about/
