Are you a qualified careers adviser? I am

May I ask why similar is bad? Wouldn't more knowledge of history be a benefit at university since the course I was looking at was ancient and modern history? Can you explain please?

I don't take History, but in my school it's quite common to take both history courses - known as 'Double History' especially amongst people that want to do Law,Classics,Politics etc. However, it is a valid point that the spectrum of subjects you've chosen would appear to be too narrow - if you are certain that you want to apply for a history degree, id say go with it, otherwise maybe do a language/politics/psychology?

Ah thank you this helps alot

Sometimes people choose to do A levels that are related such as History and Classical Civilization but I have literally never heard of someone doing A levels in History, History and English.

No Uni would ever require it for a History degree (not even Oxford or Cambridge) because A levels are not supposed to be so specialised. At the age of 16, it is still a good idea to keep your options as open as possible, so even if your college does let people do 2 separate A levels in History (and you haven't got the wrong end of the stick) I would still suggest you look at doing something else. It's up to you at the end of the day
