I've been dating this girl via distance relationship for a few months, we meet up once a month to see each other in one of our respective countries. She's got valentines day and the subsequent few days off so I thought to take her to Iceland as it has always been her dream to see the northern lights; but is it to extravagant for someone I've only been dating for a few months?

This seems really sweet. It's up to you, though, ultimately!

The store assistants might get annoyed with you if only go there to look at the northern lights without buying them.

I'd rather take her to the shop and have her pick out a meal for one so I could be super romantic and pop it in the microwave for her, but it's your call. My way saves quite a few quid.

The Romans used to celebrate Valentine's Day by killing a goat and dog, and then whipping women with the hides of the dead animals. But your idea sounds more romantic and less messy.

It's an expensive place, but well worth a visit. You'll need to get out of the city to have the best chance of seeing the lights though.

Cheers, yeah, were only going for a few days but a northern lights tour is definitely on the cards. To Vik beach and Skogafoss too.

Bit low budget, maybe go to ASDA or even Morrisons if you really want to get the big guns out
