Hi,

I am doing an application for a training contract and they want a CV and a personal statement. Is this personal statement like what I would have written for my application for the LPC? so do I need to say:
why I want to do law?
why I want to work for their firm?
why I would be suited to their firm?

thanks guys! and any pointers will be greatly appreciated

It can be similar, but try to make it as bespoke as possible.

For the personal statement, you will need to sell yourself on why your the right fit / best candidate for the firm. You will need to draw on your personal qualities, skill set and legal/non legal experience. Also try to research into the firm and include it where appropriate.

Few other tips I can think of:
- proof read, proof read, proof read - get someone to check over your CV and personal statement before you send it off. To make sure it make sense and free from errors.

- no grammar / spelling errors - make sure your application is free from this errors. The competition for training contract is already extremely tough as it is. You may probably get rejected if they spot some basic mistakes.

- take your time with PS - try to take your time with the PS, dont rush it and make sure its concise and engaging. Quality - > Quantity.

Good luck!

It’s just like a cover letter, just without all the formal dates, addresses, signs offs etc. Depending on word count, depends on what you should write but your rough outline sounds ok
