How is the positive approach holistic?

My teacher insists that the positive approach is holistic but I don't understand how. Isn't it reductionistic due to the fact it oversimplifies emotions by categorizing them as simply positive or negative. When from Larsen et al, 2001 they found that emotions can be mixed as hope can cause uncertainty and anxiety, joy can be short-lived, love can cause heartbreak when not reciprocated, and anger can be positive if we need to assert ourselves. So how can it be holistic?
