If we allow light (a stream of photons) to pass through a sheet with two slits, an interference pattern will appear on the screen behind it and this is evidence of wave superposition." Can someone please explain this to me in simpler terms? i am not sure what an interfernce pattern is and how they even get that? I also don't know what wave superposition is. Not really sure what is going on here to be honest. Also, why is it that in the photoelectric effect, photons behave as particles as opposed to waves - I don't get that. Would like some help please

Wave Superposition-Suppose two or more waves, moving through a same medium at the same time. Then the net displacement is the sum of displacements of the individual waves. This is the principal of superposition of waves.![Name: 220px-Standing_wave_2-compressed.gif.jpeg

Now for the experiment.......
suppose S1 and S2 be the slits.....
when one slit is open and another is blocked then there is a simple pattern......
Here I1 is the intensity of the beam of photons for first case.....I2 is for second one.....![Name: 20190119_185019-compressed.jpg.jpeg

But when both are open, then we get a interference pattern ......![Name: 20190119_184941-compressed.jpg.jpeg

in interference we need to consider photons' wave nature......
photons have dual nature..... particles and waves......
like water .....water acts as waves.....but it's a combination of water molecules......which are like particles.....hope that will help......
