Hi all,

I got 5A* 5A and 1B for my GCSEs and would love to apply to Warwick to study economics...although I'm still in year 12, so will defo have to wait for AS grades! I'm also thinking of places like Nottingham.
Do you think the grades are ok enough, esp for warwick?
(I know for Nottingham, GCSEs do not really matter because my economics teacher got in with AAA despite being predicted DDE for his A levels. so I'm assuming that his gcse grades were not very high.)
What do you think about Warwick? Any personal/similar experiences?

For almost course that is not economics, law or medicine your gcse's,s are fine, but I know people who have been rejected with better grades and apparently their gcse's let them down so I would say no, but may as well apply anyway- with spending cuts competition should go down so you never know

4A* 4A and 1 B plus a credit in IT.

Recieve an offer for Mphys physics. I think it depends on subject. Physics is not so competitive but I imagine I would've found it a lot harder if I applied for economics or something.

Your GCSEs definitely won't put you at a disadvantage to be honest, I would make sure that for Econ you get at least three As at AS and get predicted an A* or two but solid AS results are paramount. I do know people who've been rejected at Warwick because of their GCSEs in my year but I wouldn't worry too much about yours at all!

I had a similar GCSE profile to yours (marginally worse to be honest) and I've been given an offer for International Management which is an A*AA course. What I will say is don't let the horror stories of people getting rejected with 10A*s that you see on here put you off, either they're making it up or another aspect of their application was ****.

By the way, personal experience of Warwick is; brilliant across the board and definitely worth an application.

Hope this helps!

Everyone needs to calm down about GCSE's affecting their chances at Warwick
My GCSE's? 3A's, 5B's, 1C, 3D's
And I got two offers from Warwick within 3 weeks of sending my application.
Seriously guys, your statement/reference/predicted grades mean so much more!

Totally agree, Warwick do not care in the slightest about GCSE's.

My GCSE are terrible; ABBBBBCCCD, and i've just been given an AAA offer.

Put in the work at A-level and you'll be fine.

I got A*A*AAAAAAABB and got an offer for Law a couple days ago

Technically you got one higher grade than me, otherwise we're the same (save me having one extra GCSE B).

I know that there are quite alot of these threads in the past but the reason why i made another one was because things may have changed. To those of you who have been given an offer or are in your first year of economics at warwick what were you're GCSEs? Mine are 3A* 6A 1B and from the past threads i don't think i stand much of a chance :s-smilie:

Identical GCSEs to me but I actually resat my A levels and got an offer for Biochemistry. Those grades should be fine for the great majority of courses (except possibly economics which is notoriously competitive).

haha didn't bother to read the year. Did you end up at Warwick in the end?
You wanna be aiming for the top grades possible, A*-A mainly I would imagine!

My GCSE grades: BBCCC

my A level predited grades: A*AAA

I've got an offer from Warwick for math and physics and I need to get an A*AA. I know my GCSE grades are Crap!!!!. as long as you do well in your A levels, GCSE's would not be a problem.

GCSEs matter for Economics at Warwick, but they matter less (if at all) for other courses.

Sorry I took so long to reply I never bother checking TSR much. I applied to Bath, Lancaster, KCL and Birmingham they are all Management or Business Admin courses.

With GCSEs as long as you meet the requirements on the website, they shouldn't reject you on the basis that they're too weak so I really wouldn't worry about them.

Where else are you planning on applying?

Hey I got 2A* and 8As at GCSE, i'm studying biology, chemistry, maths and economics for AS this year. Would my GCSE's put me at a big disadvantage for Economics?

I wouldn't worry too much about them, I know a lot of people who regret being too humble about where they could get in and where they couldn't. You wouldn't be a write off and I would definitely try applying, at the end of the day if you don't ask you wont get! You really do have to concentrate on nailing your AS levels AT LEAST 3 As for Economics and writing a beasting Personal Statement though. I'm talking about at least 6 drafts and getting as many of your mates etc. as possible to read over it. Also use your P.S to emphasise that you do other things, and apply what you do in an extra-curricular setting to aspects of the course wherever possible.

If you don't do those things it would definitely be an uphill struggle, but at this stage your academic profile isn't something which would mean your application goes straight in the bin at all.
I have an offer from Warwick and my GCSE grades are 4A* 5As and 1B

Reading this makes me extremly confused as to why I have got an offer! I got AABBBBCCDUUU and I'm doing a BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care - dist, dist and A-level sociology - A and government and politics - B.

I got a conditional offer for English Literature (AAA) and I got 3 A*s, 3 As and 2 Bs (in Maths and Statistics) in my GCSEs. My secondary school was absolutely awful. (Also got two Distinctions at I.T, but not sure if that even really counts for anything lol)

At A Level I got four As at AS and am predicted A*AA

For anyone who's thinking of applying, I doubt GCSEs matter that much, as long as your A Level predictions are good enough

I have an offer for English Literature and my grades at GCSE were 3A*s and 8As. Bear in mind that it is the most competitive course at Warwick, according to them.
