So I started uni in september and have found it very hard. My family lives abroad and I'm incredibly close to them, and I find ti hard to be so far away. I'm homesick all the time and when I was home over christmas I kept cyring about the thought of having to come back to uni. I enjoy my course and have lovely friends (though none that compare to my friends at home) but I just miss my family so much and even the prospect of going back for a weekend in two weeks doesnt help. It's not that I have a massive group of friends back home, but I'm so close to my parents and my brother that im always happy there. Does anyone feel the same?

What you are feeling is normal, just try and keep yourself busy with your friends.

Try not to compare everything at uni to what you have at home. I know it's difficult, but once you accept that things aren't going to match up completely in this different environment, you'll start to feel more comfortable with where you are and enjoy yourself more. If you constantly think about where you could be (at home), you won't be able to appreciate what you have at uni (which I suspect explains the comment about your friends).
