I copied some code to create a interactive slideshow from w3schools but the first image doesn’t load until the slideshow is interacted with and then it goes automatic but it basically appears glitchey as there’s nothing there at first

Without knowing what the code looks like there's not really much anyone can suggest. (Try putting it into https://jsfiddle.net/ and creating a link to it)
I don't know what the carousel from w3schools is like, but if you're having trouble with it, then the bootstrap carousel is very easy to use as an alternative - https://getbootstrap.com/
