CIE AS English Language 9093

Well, I applied for the May/June series for 2019. My main subjects are Biology, Chemistry and Physics and I am actually doing my A2 this year.
But my dad thought doing another subject, at least only AS would be beneficial for me when applying for uni. So I decided to do English AS along with my other subjects.
This was a sudden decision. I checked some papers and I guess I could take at least a D. My best subject is English actually, I got a 6.0/6.0 for Cambridge Checkpoint exams and an A (85) for O levels.
But AS seems hard and I haven't touched an English paper or learnt in a class.
Can I please have some advice and tips on how to handle AS English 9093? How should I study/practise? What are the main things I should focus on knowing for Paper 1 & 2?
Thank you.
Sorry you've not had any responses about this. :frown: Are you sure you've posted in the right place? Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses if you post there.
Hi! I'm also doing m/j 9093 this year. I just found a helpful website for resources here: http://eddistutorial.com/as-english-language.html
Also, you can look for "Sample Candidate Responses" just by adding 9093 with it on the search engine.
For me, the commentary (paper 1) is the most challenging, I have compiled some sample analysis (although they are of poems they help to understand identifying different figurative language, techniques, and effects); if you want that message me, make sure to specify that you want that.
I think for paper two, you have to do some research for solid points for (Q2) but the imaginative writing (Q1) depends on how much you read, and how you can employ those skills in your writing.
You must be careful though, for it can't be quite easy and require hard work and time. For basics, these videos might be helpful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P_XeyPh2XY (Basic Figurative Language techniques)
https://www.thoughtco.com/top-figures-of-speech-1691818 (20 figurative language examples)
You can also go through the syllabus: https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/Images/329328-2019-syllabus.pdf
and make sure you know the meaning of terms used in markscheme because there are a very few available candidate responses. Good Luck!
