Column Writing

Hello TSR! My name is Mike and I am a Med student at Newcastle who is taking a year out and spending time out in the Netherlands. I realised that I quite enjoyed writing about my experiences of Medicine and Science. I particularly enjoy reading articles within journals about new research studies, but have also found an interest in reading columns be it medical or non-medical. My question to the floor is essentially, how do I get involved in this sort of work? I would like it to run along the side of my university work and professional life, but have never braoched the topic of writing. Is there any particular literature anyone would recommend? And where to start?
